My Friday Afternoon. Technology and the Arts

The London housing crisis is one of those ‘first world’ problems which seem to have no end. I tend find it particularly annoying in two situations. One, when I want to organise a dinner party or when I find artistic objects that I’d use to decorate my own place. This is specially so if technology has been used too.

I spent some of my Friday afternoon visiting the art galleries near or on Charlotte Street. I saw there some works of art which I would take home straight away, but I have not space for them – yet.

Rebecca Hossack’s gallery is exhibiting some of the work of Frank Hyder. I saw some colourful pieces there which seem to play with light and different textures. It was rather creative, and I was dying to know how it was done. It was my lucky day, as the artist himself was there taking pictures! So we had a brief and enjoyable chat about that.

Ladies and gents, Frank Hyder.

My Friday Afternoon. Technology and the Arts

What I loved the most is the interaction between technology and art. This is a shaped plexiglass covered with a paint and then coated. Inside there are LED lights, which he manages with the little controller on the right. You could change the colours of this one in particular several times. Cool, isn’t it? A bit of a lamp and contemporary art all in one. I loved it.

He was also exhibiting some more of his fish series. Which one is your favourite?

This one looks like 3D.

  1. I can’t say I have ever been a fan of “fish” art or fish pictures. Perhaps, inappropriate for me as I am a Pisces. Now I would have to say, I just hadn’t run into the right pieces. I love the light-wall art and the paintings. I would hang any one of them. I especially like the second fish picture.

Wow, those are really good. You’re right, some do look 3D, they are so good.
