Flat Hunting in London

Flat Hunting in LondonThis is one of the most boring aspects of living in a city like London. Unavoidable, though, as we all need a warm bed and a hot shower to face the day.

Here are some tips to help you out in your own search.

Funny stories do happen, though. Has anything fun or weird ever happened to you?

I believe that Londoners have needed to become too used to overpriced, not good value accommodation. There isn´t much we can actually do to reverse the situation. Go and live under London Bridge, maybe?

As it says in the TV ads, it can be an emotional rollercoaster. I have just found a flat after many viewings and adverts written and replied to. This time round, I found it really hard to keep an open mind, because after a few years here I have already achieved a certain standard of living, and I didn´t want to loose it. I was looking for a homey place, not being picky here at all.

Certain areas have gone up in value, making it really hard to find affordable accommodation. For example, I have seen student flats for 280 quid per week on Holloway Road! Can you believe it?

Now, one would think that sharing a flat or a house might be less pricey – sadly, not the case. I am talking about flats and houses that are finished to a pretty average standard and/ or really badly looked after. I can´t do without a proper shower, mattress and kitchenFlat Hunting in London in a clean place. Reasonable and expensive. Such a strange combination.

Do you need any blogging, translations or improving your language skills? Sorry. Making ends meet here.

Luckily enough, there is plenty of room to store my luggage in my new flat, and it actually looks like a home :). Experience tells me I need to keep my fingers crossed, though.

The people bit is the hardest. Living with other people is never easy, nevermind complete strangers! Everyone needs to keep an open mind and put in some effort… In my search, I have met really nice, interesting people, like this lady who was a founding member of The Pogues!! She now writes theatre plays and teaches drama. I can´t wait to see her new play.

Looking forward to hearing your flat hunting/ sharing stories!
